Aspiring Writers: Now is the Time
To Aspiring Writers Now is the Time.
I often have so many people tell me that they want to write a book. Upon further discussion, I found out there were several reasons aspiring writers aren't fulfilling their dreams. Here are a few tips to help you get started.
1. What are you waiting for? Start now, and do a simple outline of what you want to write about. I recommend the following book for fiction writers: Frist draft in 30 Days by Karen S. Wiesner, and for non-fiction writers do your research. Be the expert in the field you're writing about. You don't have to have a degree, but you need to be knowledgeable about the subject matter.
2. Allow time for your dream. When I first started writing the original edition of Path to Truth: A Spiritual Guide to Higher Consciousness, I worked fulltime, was a single parent, took care of two children, which one severely disabled. I would get up an hour earlier before my household and write. You have to be committed and that's why I use the words "allow time."
3. Don't give up. It took me 10 years to write my first book. This year, I have updated and revised Path to Truth and changed the subtitle to A Spiritual Memoir and the cover. Perseverance is so important for you to reach your goal
4. Believe in yourself. The worst thing you can do is to compare yourself to other writers or don't believe in your gifts.
You have something to say and have chosen writing as your venue to share with others. Be you and not try to be someone else.
5. Don't worry about editing at this point. Your job, for now, is to write, get your ideas on paper. There are editors and copywriters to turn your work into a professional book.
6. You'll need to think about a budget for your book. The cost will depend on whether you self-publish or get a publisher. A big cost for new authors is promotion, which I plan to discuss in another blog.
